Fort Myers Beach, FL

Tuesday, November 8

We are underway at 8 am, we have another 8 bridges to maneuver thru before our next stop. On reaching the second bridge we are informed bridge opens every 4 hours, next opening is 12 noon, we have a three hour wait, there is a marina with restaurant right before the bridge, they stated had 7 feet in channel, as I make the aproach I hit bottom past the second marker, fortunately we were going slow and able to back out. Continued zig zaging channel buying time, hit ground couple of times trying to turn in channel, very narrow. Rebel Soul runs hard aground just before bridge opens, but manages to brake free and make it thru. By 2 pm we lost site of them, after two bridges we hear from them, they have run aground several times.
By 4:30 we arrive at our destination, Palm Island Marina in Cape Haze, FL, had to turn boat around in a space just slightly wider than length of our boat, we managed to do it and lay along dock. Marina is very clean, pool, spa, wi-fi, showers, cable t.v., and condos all around, well protected, and quiet. The harbor master was nice and gave us a discount, normally $2.25/ft, charged us $1.90/ft. Rebel Soul finally made it in at 7:30 pm, again had to talk them in, and use a light to guide them in.

Wednesday, November 9

We are up early and ready to leave, Trump is our next president ? Reserve comments for another day, suffice it to say we are glad we are on a boat and have an exit plan.....
We are out before 8 am and on  our way to Fort Myers, a beautiful morning, a bit cool, and all is good.
At 11 am Rebel Soul reports engine problems, still moving but slow, they are about 2 hrs behind us. Later informed us they are anchored waiting for a tow to nearest facility 2 hours back from where we came from. We can’t baby sit them any more, they have shown no interest in trip planning, navigation etc., seems they just want to follow and let us worry where to dock and how to get there. Wish them the best, but they need to be more self sufficient.
Arrived in Fort Myers Beach at 2:45 pm, Moss Marina, it is a beautiful place, shopping, beaches, restaurants, all within walking distance, and a trolley to reach more distant places. Staff very accommodating, clean marina, with cruisers lounge, showers, wi-fi, and good t.v. reception. We will be here for a couple of months, my Courtney flying in on the 18 th, it will be a wonderful Thanks Giving Day.
