In short time we have assumed the duties of operativo, we answer radio calls from vessels approaching and gather information and direct them to anchorage. In the morning capitania would come to the boat for coffee and to get an update on arriving vessels. Also served as interpreter with boarding parties clearing in foreign vessels.
Most vessels come in just to check into the country an leave, by most standards this place would have a hard time getting a half star rating! It may be isolated and void of conveniences, but its people and ambiance can not be found else where.
| Israel & Cora S.V. Akun |
This Spanish couple, Israel and Cora, we met after guiding them into the harbor on a dark and rough night, after a long passage from Jamaica they were glad to hear my voice. We have developed a great relationship and have had some great moments together, the most memorable so far was ‘the day of the dog’ (if I told you, I’d have to kill you), you just would not believe it. They also want to follow us south along with Jeffery.

Then there is Planes and Guliver, crew of a marina 50 ft charter fishing boat. We have their spot at the dock, but Isra (capitania) asked them to tie on our side because he did not want us to move off the dock. We became as brothers and shared memorable moments together. Kathy would have coffee and breads in the morning for them and when they returned they would bring us fish, lobsters and beer. We would often share the evening meal and enjoy their company over a few rums.
